About the event
Come explore the northeast side of Des Moines, known as Snusville. Swedish immigrants settled the area in the 19th century, and the name derives from the dipping tobacco they brought with them. Snus was popular because it required no spitting.
Depending on the route you choose, you may visit the campus of Grandview University, founded in 1896 by members of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in American, and pass the historic Luther Memorial church, established in 1918.
You may also visit several city parks, have an opportunity to ride the Heritage Carousel, walk along the Des Moines River, and explore the revived Highland Park neighborhood with its historic storefronts and a variety of shops and restaurants.
