Walks in 2025
The Club celebrated 40 years of existence in August with a walk in Des Moines. Other walks throughout the year explored parts of Iowa and many Des Moines area neighborhoods. A number of Des Moines walkers even attended the national American Volkssport Association (AVA) convention in Las Cruces, NM.
January
The Club kicked off 2025 with a walk Jordan Creek - reconnecting with each other and walking off holiday feasts.



March
Walkers explored Des Moines' Western Gateway Park, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park, and enjoyed a stop at American Dream Machines.


April
The national American Volkssport Association (AVA) convention was held in Las Cruces, NM. A number of members of the Greater Des Moines Volkssport Association (GDMVA) attended and enjoyed exploring the area
May
The Des Moines neighborhood of "Snusville" was the focus of a chilly walk in May


June
A group of walkers took a weekend and explored SW Iowa - Corning, Shenandoah, Glenwood, and Stanton. The group joined up with the Nebraska Trailblazers for the walk in the Glenwood area
July
In July, the Brenton Arboretum offered a shady walk on a warm day.




August
The Greater Des Moines Volkssport Association celebrated 40 years in August with a walk followed by a party!
September
The Wolf Creek Recreation Area - a county park near Beaman, Iowa - provided an afternoon well spent with friends, food, and fun. Walkers from the Wisconsin club even joined us while on a circuit that included walks in WI, MN, and IA





October
Grinnell was the site of our October walk



November
The club fit in two walks during November - the Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve near Grinnell and a special Capitol Complex Veterans Memorial Walk to view the many memorials near the capitol grounds in Des Moines



December
2025 closed out with a holiday gathering and plenty of food ... but not so many steps

The GDMVA club also had many other walks throughout the year - across the state, across central Iowa, and across Des Moines.
